Therapy Dog in training
Kuno is a Standard Poodle who is currently in training to serve our patients as a Therapy Dog and is owned by Jessica. While there are no truly "hypoallergenic dogs" Poodles are known to shed less dander and hair than most other breeds, and have consistently been found to have lower levels of the KNF-1 protien which is what makes dogs allergenic.
While Service Dogs are trained to assist their owner with specific tasks, Therapy Dogs are trained to offer support, love, and a calming presence to everyone they encounter. Therapy Dogs are often used in hospitals, schools, hospice or skilled nursing facilities to assist patients in recovery from or to better cope with conditions and health problems, such as heart disease, cancer and mental health disorders.
To become a certified Therapy Dog Kuno and Jessica will be participating in training for obedience as well as learning specific tasks and behaviors to be of the greatest benefit to both our office and our staff. Eventually, Kuno will assist Jessica as a co-therapist for our Mental Health patients.
We encourage patients to visit and pet, and even give Kuno a treat everytime they come for a visit.
Currently, we are the only local office who has incorporated a resident Therapy Dog to help support the health, healing and happiness of our patients.
